Sometimes when we look at our fingers and we pay heed of
the rings we are wearing, we might ask ourselves where the
tradition began. In general we simply know that wedding and
engagement rings are used to mean a marital relationship.
Nevertheless, most rings include some level of symbolism
into their design.
You may have noticed a friend with children wearing jewelry
comprised of various colored stones. More than likely, she
is wearing what is established as a mother's ring, as a
show of pride in her children and in her status as a
mother. These rings are generally colorful and may be
arranged in a variety of styles, incorporating one
birthstone reflecting the birth month of each child.
When you are proud of your education you can illustrate it
wearing a school ring, but there is another symbolism that
they can incorporate as well. School rings may feature
various ciphers that signify participation in activities
and areas of interest. Conventionally, you can wear a
school ring with its insignia facing outwards only
following your graduation.
A very popular type of ring among younger adults is a
friendship ring. This kind of ring is usually given between
close friends and it symbolizes their own special
relationship. Generally, friendship rings are worn always
and they remind the constant and unwavering friendship two
people share. You can wear this type of ring on any finger.
In the same way, a promise ring is generally given and
received by young adults. A small diamond is usually
incorporated and the ring is worn on the left ring finger
and these types of rings lack the ornate fashion and cost
of a usual engagement ring. They do not symbolize
engagement or even the chance of a future together, but
they are a naive declaration of love and dedication.
Irish Claddagh rings are becoming really popular. They are
often given to friends, fianc~s and they can even be used
as wedding rings. The Claddagh illustrates a pair of hands
raising a heart and a crown at the top. The meaning of this
ring is "With these hands I give you my heart and I crown
it with my love". A Claddagh ring has different meanings;
depending on how it is worn. For instance, if you wear the
ring with the heart's point facing outward, it means that
your heart is open and you are romantically available. If
you wear the ring with the point of the heart facing
inward, it means your heart is taken; and if you wear an
inward heart on the left ring finger, that stands for
marriage.
Of course, most of us are familiar with the meaning of a
iamond worn on the left ring finger. Usually engagement
rings are designed with a diamond center stone, as diamonds
traditionally symbolizes eternal purity and strength,
eflecting the hopes for one's marriage to come. Engagement
rings may be comprised of other stones, each of which would
carry its own significance. Wedding rings are also worn on
his finger, symbolic of a direct path to the heart.
You can illustrate your beliefs or symbolize your feelings
by wearing a ring. That means you will have a ring with a
particular meaning.
